Christian Beliefs About Life After Death

Christian and struggling with the idea of death!!?

I recently experienced a death in my family, not someone I am very close too, but it still affected me quite a bit. I am a Christian and have beliefs about the afterlife…but seeing the body at the visitation has really made me start worrying. I haven’t stopped thinking about it all week. I just saw that body and there was no life in it at all…obviously, but I don’t know how else to explain it. How can I know that there really is an afterlife? What if this is all there is and i never see my loved ones again after they die? I can’t live with that thought. I always hear that God has a reason for allowing death, but sometimes it’s really hard to see what that reason might be!!

I want to do all I can to allay your distress about this. The first and most important thing you must do is trust in God and be sure that you are asking Him these questions and telling Him your doubts, feelings, and problems.

We, meaning all the Christians on this site, can give you all the verses in the Bible, but if you cannot trust the Father, then you are in a deep hole that only He can get you out of.

Death is a part of life, and for the Christian, it is the only way we will be able to experience the full measure of God’s love. The Bible tells us that there are 2 deaths: the physical and the spiritual. We all will die the physical death, that’s how God made it. Period. No two ways around it. The second, or spiritual death, is in our hands. It is based upon the decision we make concerning Jesus Christ. If we accept Him then we do not die the second death. A Christian dies once, but a non-Christian dies twice.

Rev 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: over these the second death hath no power; but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

Rev 20:14 And death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death, even the lake of fire.

Rev 21:8 But for the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part shall be in the lake that burneth with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.
