What happened in England when Albert, Prince Consort died?
I am writing a paper as to how the death of Prince Albert is significant to British history. I know that Queen Victoria mourned and wore black for the rest of her life, but what happened to Great Britain? What happened to the things he was a big part of? Thanks for your help!
Albert, being a German, was not interested in overseas colonies. He was more interested in developing domestic arts and industries. (Think of the Victoria and Albert Museum’s purview.) After his death, Victorian Britain became more imperialistic and more expansionist, a trend encouraged by Disraeli. Before his death, Albert had great influence on Victoria and her views.
