Life And Death Situation

What’s a good quote about surviving a life or death situation (perseverance)?

I’m writing an English essay about how I got lost once about a mile off the coast of Hawaii and I was jet skiing. And basically the essay is going to be about how when I was lost and being tossed around by some monstrous waves, I had two choices-life or death. So I’m looking for a good quote that talks about how when you fall down in life you have a choice of staying down or getting back up…something along those lines. Any help would be deeply appreciated! 🙂
