Ecclesiastes 9:5 says the dead are “conscious of nothing at all”. When we die, our spirit (or life force) goes out. It’s like a candle being blown out – the flame doesn’t go anywhere, it’s simply gone. But there is a hope for the dead to be resurrected to a paradise earth.
