Gay Marriage & Divorce – how do you get divorced when it isn’t recognized by your home state?
If you get married in Canada & MN doesn’t recognize the legal status, what happens if MN legalizes gay marriage – since I have broken up, how to I make sure I am “legally” divorced from the spouse I married in Canada.
This is ill-defined legal doctrine. States are still working this out, and some are reaching opposite conclusions.
I’m certain that you should consult an attorney. You may even need to return to Canada to ensure your ties to your former spouse are genuinely dissolved.
