How can one find marriage and divorce dates needed for passport applications? ..quickly &…?

My fiance and I are planning a trip and need to get passports for the first time. He was married back in 1985 for about a year or so but does not know the divorce date and has an estimated marriage date. We were planning on going to the post office this Sat to apply but need this info. Is there anyway to get it online by then? free would be great but is not essential.
Are you sure he’s divorced…this sounds awfully vaugue!
