Conservative Christian divorce rates are the highest then other faith groups, why?
A recent study by the Barna Research Group throws extreme doubt on these estimates. Barna released the results of their poll about divorce on 1999-DEC-21. 1 They had interviewed 3,854 adults from the 48 contiguous states. The margin of error is ±2 percentage points.
The survey found:
11% of the adult population is currently divorced.
25% of adults have had at least one divorce during their lifetime.
Divorce rates among conservative Christians were significantly higher than for other faith groups, and much higher than Atheists and Agnostics experience.
I think alot of them get caught up in “following the rules” and miss the mark completely. They think they’re saved because they have the “right” beliefs and practices, but they are trusting in that instead of trusting in Jesus Christ. As a result, they are not genuinely born again and so they cannot get the victory over their sins. They try and fail.
It’s so sad that so many people claim to be saved but really are not. They are hurting themselves and they’re also hurting other Christians – we become tainted by association. I can no longer call myself a fundamentalist, even though its a fairly accurate description of my beliefs, because people will assume I’m some kind of radical, hateful hypocrite (even though I’m not).
