Beauty And The Beast Lesson Plans

What should I do to get better?

I am an aspiring actress (theatre actress). I’m am 14 years old. I have been in the following plays:

Hepcats – Aunt Jenna Rae
Lewis and Clark – Sacajawea
Nowhere to Run – Julie
Anne of Green Gables – Anne Shirley
Best Christmas Pageant Ever – Grace Bradley
The Story of the Newsies – Student Director
Fiddler on the Roof – Chava
Beauty and the Beast – Chorus
Sound of Music – member of the bowing trio

And I am currently in Annie as Mrs. Greer
I have also taken a semester of Ballet, I was in choir from age 7 to 11, and also 13 and 14, and I have taken piano lessons since I was 7. I know I still have a long way to go and I plan to take voice lessons this summer. Any suggestions or encouragement?

Well, first let me say: You go girl! lol You’re definitely doin’ your thing, and it’s refreshing to see someone so young knowing exactly what they want to do and is actually working to accomplish their dreams..

I do have to agree with the earlier poster who said take improv classes. It’ll only help you and it’s a great skill to have, especially for auditions. Also, network! It’s not a lie when they say “it’s who you know” when it comes to showbusiness. You never know who’s casting what and what you’ll fit in to so the more people you know-the better.

As far as encouragement, I would just say keep doing what you’re doing-don’t let anyone (posters, counselors, and teachers included) tell you that you can’t be successful in acting. People who say that aren’t actors and have no idea what we go through or the passion we have for the art. Don’t set yourself up to fail. Someone above me said to get a backup plan, and (while many people may not agree with me) I just think that’s a cop out. We all have our different levels of success and not every actor wants to be in Hollywood, you already said you wanted to do theatre and i think you’re well on your way. Don’t invest your time and money on a back up plan, because that’s admitting that you need to back up-and you dont.

Most of all, just don’t compromise your morals and beliefs to please other and I pray that God’ll direct your path.
