Some good fairy tale retellings?
Does anybody know of any Fairy Tale Retelling or books similar to these?
– Beauty and the Beast
– Sleeping Beauty
– Twelve Dancing Princesses
– Arabian Nights
books that have somebody royalty falling for either another royal or somebody who is not a royal.
Please and thank you for your help.
P.S. It does not matter what age group, though teen and up is preferable.
Also ” Swan Lake” (I forgot to add to the list.)
“Beastly” by Alex Flinn (Beauty and the Beast)
“Rose Daughter” by Robin Mckinley (Beauty and the Beast)
“Beauty” by Robin Mckinley (Beauty and the Beast)
“Wildwood Dancing” by Juliet Marillier (mainly Twelve Dancing Princesses, but with a mix of The Frog Prince. Excellent book, though)
“Spindle’s End” by Robin Mckinley (Sleeping Beauty)
“Ella Enchanted” by Gail Carson Levine (Cinderella)
“East” by Edith Pattou (East of the Sun, West of the Moon (my personal favorite fairy tale))
“Beauty” by Sheri S. Tepper (Sleeping Beauty)
“Beast” Donna Jo Napoli (Beauty and the Beast set in Persia)
“Zel” by Donna Jo Napoli (Rapunzel)
“The Bloody Chamber” by Angela Carter (ten stories, each based upon fairytales)
“Briar Rose” by Jane Yolen (Sleeping Beauty)
“Briar Rose” by Robert Coover (Sleeping Beauty)
“Enchantment” by Orson Scott Card (Sleeping Beauty)
“Clementine” by Sophie Masson (Sleeping Beauty)
“White as Snow” by Tanith Lee (Snow White)
“Mirror, Mirror” by Gregory Maguire (Snow White)
“Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister” by Gregory Maguire (Cinderella)
“Just Ella” by Margaret Peterson Haddix (Cinderella)
“Bella at Midnight” by Diane Stantley (Cinderella)
Hope this helps! A bunch of these books just carry vital aspects from the fairytales, not a direct retelling. But you can just look them up on http://www.barnesandnoble.com/
